I have not forgotten about this blog

I’m just concentrating on this new site right now. Check it out if you live in New York.

So…

I haven’t posted in over a week because I lost my button-up. I feel like a totally horrible person, but I’ve been having an insane two weeks and it got mixed up somewhere. I’m going to go buy a new one in the next two days so there will be new things on here.

Love

Hello!

Thank you all for being fantastic with following, promoting, participating, feedback, etc. So amazing. I just wanted to let you guys in on some things that are coming up:

1. Photo shoot tomorrow sponsored by Vintage Doylestown. This is an absolutely amazing vintage store that has been so generous with letting me come in and use their clothes and store for shoots. Expect great things.
2. Chicago. I’ll be taking a small break Wednesday through Sunday to go out to Chicago for Lollapalooza. The shots from tomorrow’s vintage shoot will be posted, but I am leaving after that. I’m going to try my best to still shoot while I’m out there, maybe I’ll ambush some strangers in Button-Ups at the festival! Or if you’re going to be there, contact me!
3. I’ve been taking some behind the scenes video during shoots and I’ve put together something really cool. It’s going to take probably two more weeks to finish, as I need more footage and I don’t know anything about film or video production, but I think you guys will like it.

Also, I’m really looking for more people to get hands-on involved in this, if you have any ideas in the form of words, pictures, videos, etc, I’d really love to see them. And if you want to model, I’d love to hear about that too.

Send everything here: putonashirt@gmail.com

Last thing: go here to recommend this blog for the directory. I’ll give you a hug. Repost Put On A Shirt’s link and I’ll give you two hugs. Or I might make a “blogs I like” section with links to people who have been really awesome with helping out.

The Summer RomanceModel: Genevieve
I keep using the word Summer in every post. I’m allowed though, right? Since it’s summer? Wearing lace is very romantic to me. It’s just really feminine and sexy. This look is kind of care-free, flirty, and simple with that little touch of romance. This might be one of my favorites so far, even though it’s so incredibly effortless, just because I love lace mixed in with casual clothing.
Items Used:-White Button-Up: Sleeves rolled, collar open.-White Lace Shirt: It’s all about layers! What’s great about this is that it isn’t too noticeable because it’s almost the same color of the shirt, but it gives great texture and style. I mentioned lace shirts a few posts ago, they’re really everywhere. I have one that was $10 at Forever 21, and I’ve seen them at department stores, Target, mall stores, etc. Also, Macy’s is launching Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line tomorrow, August 3rd, and it’s bound to have some lace shirts and a bunch of trendy pieces that I’ve mentioned on this blog. I’m going to go check it out and report back to you guys!-Denim Shorts: Cut your jeans.-Brown Lace-Up Vintage Boots: These are the same vintage boots from the “Vintage Summer” post. I love them. They become a whole lot more casual when you wear them undone or without laces all together. Go to your local vintage store! There’s nothing more satisfying than finding something that no one else will have.

The Prep SchoolModel: Lauren
Just apologizing ahead of time to Dan, Lauren’s roommate, because we took this picture in his closet when he wasn’t home. It was good lighting! Sorry, bud. Is it bad that this look just reminds me of Rushmore and nothing else? Does that make me a hipster? Yeah, probably. The whole scholarly thing is a clean and cute look, and you can still give it your own style.
Items Used:-White Button-Up: Tucked in, sleeves rolled over cardigan.-Prep School Cardigan: Wow, I’m really surprised I haven’t done anything with a cardigan on here until now. Love this because it’s really traditional, navy blue and red with gold buttons and some sort of crest. The Button-Up and the cardigan work so well together, especially with the white sleeves rolled over. This one is from a thrift store called Second Avenue, and I’m sure you can find one in any place like that. I have occasionally seen some prep school style cardigans in chain stores, but why would you pay $29.99 for that?!-Black High-Waisted Skirt: I use this like every other post, so don’t hate me! It really is just a good thing for any body type and is really versatile. This one is from Old Navy, I believe. You can get one anywhere. I think I mentioned New York & Co before, but I didn’t elaborate. They sell more professional and dressy clothing at really good prices. It’s a mall store and they always have the great simple pieces that I mention on here, and they’re ALWAYS having sales of anywhere from 20% off to 70% off.-Patterned/Textured Tights: Just to make the look a little more trendy and stylish before it becomes too conservative. They are from Target, but I know H&M has an extremely wide variety of different styles of textured tights. Really anything you could even think of.-Men’s Dress Shoes: Consignment shops. Getting little trendy oxfords from a chain store just isn’t the same. Really, just go get some dude’s old shoes from a thrift store. I always refer to these as the “grandpas”. I was like “Lauren, for this look I want you to wear your grandpas”.

The Rock Of AgesModel: Tara
Yeah, I’m naming this after a broadway play. Don’t judge. Anyway, I wanted to do something that had a little bit more of a rock n’ roll edge to it, but still nothing to insane to wear out casually. Adding “Of Ages” to the rock idea was chosen because the leather jacket and collared shirt combo is a bit 50’s greaser to me, the sunglasses and shoes are 80’s, and the t-shirt belongs to a band that became popular in the 60’s and 70’s. Best of… all worlds.
Items Used:-White Button-Up: Not tucked in, collar open.-Old band T-Shirt: I love the look of a t-shirt overtop of the Button-Up, it dresses it down by like 200%. Just find any old or old-looking band t-shirt, preferably one that’s not fitted and maybe a little beat up. Tara is wearing a Rolling Stones shirt, and while you should go for whatever band or type of music you like, I think retro band shirts will look best with this. (Isn’t it weird to think that the Stones are retro?). If you don’t have any concert tees, plenty of vintage stores that specialize in the 60’ and 70’s have really awesome ones. And then there’s also places like Hot Topic that specialize in that type of thing.-Leather Jacket: I think I’d wear a leather jacket every single day if I could. You could probably add a leather jacket to every single look on here so far and it would look good still. It’s just an unfailing piece. They’re so in right now, you can get one anywhere from Target to Express to Forever 21 to a thrift store. If you definitely want real leather, a thrift store is the way to go because you won’t overspend. If not, you’ll find really nice fake leather ones in any clothing store.-Gray Skinny Jeans: Self explanatory. Like I’ve said about tights before, doing something different than just the standard colors of denim and black makes a big difference.-Black Heeled Booties: Oh good lord, these are fantastic. Tara has the most insane shoe collection. Basically, just go to your local shoe store and find the tallest, sexiest fake leather heels you can get your hands on. Instant win. I think that this look would also look really good with chuck taylors, doc martens, or regular boots, if heels aren’t your thing.-Small Round Sunglasses: These were actually picked up at a local farmers market/flea market place for I think $3. You find great things in the strangest of places. Buying sunglasses at mall stores is such a waste sometimes when you can get great finds for super low prices. And they will usually end up being things that you won’t find anywhere else

The Trashy FashionModel: SarahI could easily call this the Taylor Momsen or something because she’s popular right now, but I’m not going to credit her with something that she didn’t start. Courtney Love and Madonna have been trashing it up long before Little J was even born. This is getting really big right now for some reason. I’m digging it though. Take a chance on it.
Items Used:-White Button-Up: Open, sleeves rolled.-Black Lace Shirt: At first we were thinking of leaving a black camisole on underneath the lace shirt, but what the hell. Here’s sarah’s bra. No big deal. For the sake of fashion, right? I know I’m saying “Here are looks you can wear out in the world, not just in a magazine”, and for some that might not apply to this look. Not everyone is that comfortable with showing this much. But if you are, seriously go for it. It won’t hurt. A few months ago you wouldn’t see a lace shirt in any store, but now they’re everywhere. I purchased a really cool white one myself for $10 at Forever 21. Places like that. Trendy mall stores! Urban Outfitters will charge you too much, though. Just sayin’. You can also totally make one yourself. Just go to a fabric store.-Denim Shorts: Always a good piece to have. Whether they are super short or high-waisted, dark or light, whatever. Jean shorts are great. If you want to get a really tattered look like this, just get a junky pair at a thrift store or cut up some old jeans. Why would you pay any significant amount of money for something ripped up?-Thigh Highs: Oh god, I am obsessed. I’m currently having a love affair with thigh highs. Really, any department store or place that sells lingerie and stockings. Super easy. Or steal your mom’s!-Black Heeled Booties: Basically just black lace-up heels. Kind of self explanatory. Most shoe stores have them. -Silver Jewelry: And lots of it! Seriously, just like, layer that stuff on. If you can’t find anything lying around, go to a vintage store. There’s a lot of great pieces that you won’t find anywhere else and you won’t be spending $15 on just one cheap necklace like you would at a chain store. Sarah is also wearing hardware rings that she made herself. They look really sweet and work with the trashy theme. Nuts, bolts, screws, keys, etc. Just hot glue them to a plain ring.

The BohemianModel: Sarah
Mother nature would be proud. Earth tones are fantastic. I’ve been trying to find a good look to use a scarf with, so here it is! Bohemian patterns and colors are really hip right now among celebrities (Blame Nicole Richie), and look really great paired with classic dressy pieces. Like the Button-Up, of course!
Items Used:-White Button-Up: Tucked in, Sleeves Rolled.-Long/Thick Green Scarf: Besides this scarf being perfect because the color and pattern fit the Bohemian theme, scarves just look really nice with the Button-Up. Hipsters have taught us that it doesn’t have to be cold out to wear a scarf. They’re right. Accessories are not meant to be boring, so instead of a necklace or a belt, a scarf is nice once and a while. I shouldn’t have to tell you wear to get a scarf. Right?-Plain Black Knit Skirt: These plain black stretchy short skirts that everyone has lately are awesome. You can wear them high-waisted or low or as a shirt or whatever. There’s literally absolutely no style or shape to them. Completely fantastic as a simple wardrobe staple that can be worn a thousand ways. You can probably get a super cheap one at Target or something. Most mall stores have them.-Brown Suede Boots: Boho-Chic! It’s hot right now. Suede boots are amazing. I think I have like 6 pairs. I have ones from Pay Less, DSW, H&M, Target, thrift stores etc, and then expensive ones from high-end boutiques. It just goes to show that it doesn’t matter where you shop, you can pretty much find the same things everywhere and look awesome without paying a lot of looking too hard.

The City GirlModel: Sarah
Ironic that I’m calling this the City Girl when Sarah is standing on a rock on the side of a back country road. Hey, sometimes I just have to wing it with these names because we come up with really cute outfits just by chance. I do see this as a sleek city look, though. Fake leather leggings, leather belt, oxfords, etc. It’s trendy and chic but not too casual and not too dressy. This little outfit blurb sucked. I’m really sorry, hah.
Items Used: -White Button-Up: Sleeves rolled, some buttons open.-Shiny Leggings: Every person I’ve ever met says “Leggings as pants is disgusting, put on pants, cover your ass”. Listen, guys, if you do it right it totally works. Getting leggings that are a little shiny (Don’t go overboard!) or fake leather for this makes it more stylish and less “I’m wearing yoga pants right now”. These are from Wal-Mart, so you can pretty much get them at most women’s clothing stores.-Black Belt: Again, made to look like it’s leather. Sometimes the Button-Up can be boxy and unflattering if you’re just wearing it not tucked in with a pair of pants or leggings, so a waist belt is great. You can buy one specifically made to be worn around the waist or just find a cute cheap belt somewhere and buy a size or two smaller and wear it up farther instead of on your hips.-Gray Oxfords: Oxfords! Oxfords! How many times have I used them now?! You guys should know by now where to get these and how much I love them :)

The WorkplaceModel: Mariana
Another professional sort of look, but less dressy than the last post. When me and Mariana were picking out clothes for this, we were discussing how she loves Gap, J. Crew, and Banana Republic because she loves wearing “grown-up clothes” for work. I love that. Those three stores know what’s up when it comes to White Button-Up shirts. This one is more youthful and casual than the last one, and it can be for the workplace or just for the sake of dressing nice anytime. My mom would love this one. This is exactly how she dresses.
Items Used:-White Button-Up: Open a bit, tucked in, sleeves rolled.-Blue Striped Shorts: I love the whole shorts with tights thing, and I love light blue and gray together, so this is perfect. Blue and white striped shorts are everywhere right now. It’s a dressy spring/summer sort of thing. I have a pair from Old Navy and a pair from Gap, but there’s also places like New York & Co, H&M, Target, etc. -Brown Belt: Self explanatory. It’s just all about the color scheme with this one. The brown throws in a bit of a warmer tone amongst the blue and gray. -Gray Tights: Anywhere that tights are sold! It’s always a good thing to have tights in multiple colors. I mean, I wouldn’t throw on a pair of bright blue tights, it’s just not my thing, but among my thousand pairs of black ones, there’s light gray, dark gray, brown, etc. A slight color change goes a long way. (But hey, if you can pull off neon blue tights without it ruining your outfit, work it!)-Black Peep-Toe Wedges: See last post.
